Stretches of the LNWR Eccles Tyldesley & Wigan line and the L&YR Pendleton & Hindley lines run across the map. The hamlet of New Manchester is at the eastern edge. This is a semi-rural area and principal features include New Lester Colliery, Makants, Madams Wood, Cleworth Hall, Cleworth Hall Colliery, Combermere Colliery (top left corner), Tyldesley Cemetery.
