Ordnance Survey Folded Map - ONE INCH SERIES Sheet E242/259
Here is information about Sheet 242 & 259: One Inch Sheet 242/259 Foulness & Mersea 1904 - published 2002; intro by Harry Carmichael. ISBN.978-1-84151-393-5 This map covers the area of eastern Essex from Clacton and Mersea Island southward to Foulness Island and Havengore Head. The two maps, 242 and 259, are here printed side by side to give maximum coverage of this fascinating coastal area. The towns on the map are Clacton on Sea and Brightlingsea. Beyond the coast are the Maplin Sands and other sandbanks, guarded by the Mouse and Middle lightships. On the reverse is a detailed map of St Osyth, together with a short directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you may find it useful if we list the towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map: Essex: Bradwell juxta Mare, Brightlingsea, Clacton on Sea, Dengie, Foulness, Little Holland, Little Wigborough, Peldon, St Osyth, Tillingham, West Mersea.
