Ordnance Survey Folded Map - LONDON Sheet L069.4

Detailed map of Hanwell; London sheet 69. Introduction by Johnathon Oates. The map covers the southern portion of Hanwell, around St Mark's church, which is in the NE corner. The map then extends south and west to include the village of Norwood Green, around St Mary's church, in the SW corner. The GWR Brentford branch, Windmill Lane, and the Grand Junction Canal run through the map. The principal feature is the Hanwell Lunatic Asylum, opened in 1831, while part of the map is taken up with the northern part of Osterley Park. We include extracts from early directories on the reverse; the 1934 map has entries K-Z of the Hanwell entry from a 1933 directory.

Reduced from the original Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map to a scale of approximately 1:4,340 (or about 15" to the mile). Published by Alan Godfrey Maps, Leadgate, Consett
