Alan Godfrey Maps
Ordnance Survey Folded Map - Essex Sheet EXN94.08
This detailed map covers the southern part of Purfleet, an area of riverside wharves with Thames Paper Mills, Caspian Wharf, Purfleet Wharf & Saw Mills, and oil refineries. The railway, piers and many sidings are also shown. On the other side of the Thames the map captures an interesting section of the Dartford Marshes, including the major smallpox hospital at Long Reach and its tramways down to Orchard Hospital and (just off the map) Joyce Green Hospital. The introduction by Alan Godfrey describes the industrial history of the Purfleet riverside and also explains how the Kent shore became a major centre for smallpox hospitals, with a tramway and hospital ships.

Reduced from the original Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map to a scale of approximately 1:4,340 (or about 15" to the mile). This edition published by Alan Godfrey Maps, Leadgate, Consett
RRP: £3.50
