We have published two versions of this map, showing how the area developed across the years. The 1894 version is in colour, taken from the beautiful original OS handcoloured map. Although Runcorn is historically in Cheshire, we have published it in the Lancashire series so that the sheetlines link up better with other maps. The maps cover the centre of Runcorn, plus the West Bank area of Widnes. Coverage stretches from West Street Widnes southward to York Street Runcorn, and from Trentham Street eastward to Sea Lane. Features include Runcorn railway bridge, Runcorn station, Bridgewater Canal incl most of Old and New locks and Sebastopol Arm, Waterloo Bridge, Runcorn Alkali Works, All Saints church, Bridgewater Foundry, Holy Trinity church, Hazlehurst Soap Works, St Luke's Chapel, football ground, Highfield Tannery, Australian Alum Works, Stonehills, graving docks, Manchester Ship Canal with Lower Dock and shipbuilding yard, Swing Bridge, Wigg Works, Mersey, West Bank, West Bank Dock etc. Each map includes extracts from an early directory together with a specially written introduction.
Reduced from the original Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map to a scale of approximately 1:4,340 (or about 15" to the mile). This edition published by Alan Godfrey Maps, Leadgate, Consett
